Introduction

During my practicum experience, I had the opportunity to witness firsthand how research, scholarly evidence, and technology were integrated into the delivery of care. These elements played a crucial role in informing decision-making, improving patient outcomes, and enhancing the overall quality of care. In this essay, I will provide an example from my practicum and highlight how my leader effectively utilized scholarly evidence and technology to inform care delivery.

Example

 During my clinical immersion, I had the privilege of working under a highly knowledgeable and progressive leader who consistently demonstrated a commitment to evidence-based practice (Lamb et al., 2018b). This was evident in their approach to incorporating scholarly evidence into decision-making processes, which greatly influenced the delivery of care.

 Utilization of Scholarly Evidence: My leader consistently emphasized the importance of using scholarly evidence to support decisions regarding care delivery. They fostered a culture of continuous learning and encouraged the healthcare team to stay updated with the latest research and best practices. This emphasis on scholarly evidence instilled a sense of confidence and trust in the decision-making process. Personally, I felt reassured knowing that our care practices were grounded in rigorous research and had the potential to yield positive patient outcomes.

 Application of Research: One notable instance of research application occurred when our team was confronted with a challenging case of antibiotic-resistant infection. Rather than relying solely on previous practices, my preceptor initiated an in-depth literature review to identify evidence-based interventions for such cases. Through this process, they discovered a novel antibiotic combination therapy that had shown promising results in similar situations (Molina-Mula & Gallo-Estrada, 2020). Drawing from this research, they collaborated with the healthcare team to develop a tailored care plan, resulting in successful treatment and recovery for the patient. This application of research directly informed the delivery of care, highlighting the significance of evidence-based practice in improving patient outcomes.

 Integration of Technology: In addition to scholarly evidence, my preceptor recognized the potential of technology to transform care delivery. They actively sought out innovative solutions and incorporated technological advancements to enhance patient care. For instance, they implemented a mobile health application that allowed patients to remotely monitor vital signs and share real-time data with healthcare providers (Alotaibi & Federico, 2017). This integration of technology not only improved patient engagement and satisfaction but also enabled early detection of critical changes in health status, leading to timely interventions and better outcomes.

Conclusion

Through my practicum experience, I witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of research, scholarly evidence, and technology in informing the delivery of care. My leader’s commitment to evidence-based practice, combined with their utilization of scholarly evidence and integration of technology, effectively enhanced patient outcomes and the overall quality of care. By embracing these elements, the healthcare team was able to stay informed, adapt to emerging best practices, and provide patient-centered care that was supported by the latest research and technological advancements. It is through these deliberate efforts that our healthcare system can continue to evolve, innovate, and optimize care delivery for the betterment of patients and the healthcare community as a whole.
