California Initiative Summary–Outline

Again for this assignment, you are to visit the California Secretary of State’s web site,

and choose a different initiative from those listed under one of the headings identified below, This second submission should be an outline and a paper summarizing that different initiative. Your paper should flow from your outline.

Your outline, and thus your paper, should identify the constitutional and/or statutory changes that would occur if this initiative were approved by the voters, among other items.

Again, students may choose from issues identified in any of the following areas of the California Secretary of State’s website:

Circulating Initiatives within 25% of Signatures Reached
Initiatives and Referenda Cleared for Circulation
Initiatives and Referenda Pending Signature Verification
Initiatives and Referenda Pending at the Attorney General’s Office
Initiatives Eligible for the 2018 General Election
Qualified Statewide Ballot Measures

When choosing initiatives, students should keep in mind that I expect summary outlines to be at least two pages and summary papers to be at least four pages in length. As you are deciding, you will find that some of these proposals are less than three paragraphs long—students are strongly discouraged from choosing something too short as it is highly unlikely that you will be able to meet the page requirements.

When submitted, these materials should be typed in 10 or 12-point font, double spaced, and have 1” margins. Students must use complete sentences and paragraphs throughout these submissions. These materials will be graded primarily on content and completeness; however, a portion of your grade will be based on grammar, spelling, and presentation. PLEASE NOTE: LATE MATERIALS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
