Description
REPORT #6. RESPECT MY AUTHORITY. Write a formal essay on the following topic. 5 pages, due December 3, 5% per day late penalty. Outline Weber’s three ideal types of authority. Then pick three of the following leaders, analyzing which of these ideal types they fit into the best (you can argue that they fit more than one to some degree, but not all three): Justin Trudeau, Pierre Trudeau, Stephen Harper, Margaret Thatcher, Queen Elizabeth II, Ronald Reagan, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Barack Obama, Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Tse-Tung, Fidel Castro, Winston Churchill, Charlie Manson, Tony Blair, Maximillien Robespierre, Martin Luther King, Napoleon Bonaparte, Mohandas Ghandi, Jim Jones or David Koresh. Which of your three leaders best fits their own ideal type of authority? You must pick leaders from THREE different countries, to increase the level of contrast. You may, however, contrast a US president to Manson, Koresh, King or Cortez PLUS a third non-American figure. Remember, this essay isn’t about who you like the most, but who best idealizes Weber’s categories of authority. You must research theses leaders’ ideas and personal style through books, articles, or YouTube videos along with Max Weber’s social theory. You need at least THREE sources for each of them in your bibliography, in addition to my lecture notes and Craib. Evidence counts!
