Objective of the Reflection:

  1. your reflection should demonstrate an understanding of the concept — ‘world view’, (since the objective of the course is to be able to define and understand a `world view)’, To refresh your memory about ‘worldview’, see course outline, pp. 2, 8-9.  AND the Audio lecture for class # 2, slides # 19 – # 29.
  2.  In the Reflection, demonstrate your understanding of world view (with respect to social/political/ cultural practices/traditions/an idea/issue/incident/personality, etc.).

The Reflection is:

  • personalized comment
  • somewhere in-between an essay and a journal
    • (use paragraphs but you don’t need to have an introduction, body and conclusion).
    • it should have a level of formality. Though you can use ‘I’, something that is accepted in formal writing nowadays.
  • designed to encourage you to explore your thoughts coherently and logically and to permit the instructor to evaluate the impact of the course content on you.

Do’s and Don’t’s:

  • Don’t just NARRATE or DESCRIBE
  • Do try to understand an issue, phenomenon, etc.
  • Do provide some analysis
  • Do try to present your views, thoughts and opinions
  • Do express yourself clearly and develop your ideas logically and coherently.

Citation/referencing:  If you consult any source (hardcopy, electronic, online, etc.) please remember to cite and reference. Otherwise you run the risk of being accused of plagiarism.

Formatting, etc.:

  • As you write, keep saving so you don’t lose it all
  • There’s no particular style requirement (e.g. MLA, Chicago, etc., your choice; just be consistent)
  • You must submit your Reflection in Word[3]
  • Cover page not required. But make sure you:
    1. Write your name
    2. Write: 345-102, “Beyond Bollywood”
    3. Write: “Fall 2020”
    4. Write: ‘Reflection ’
    5. insert page numbers
    6. double space; space between paragraphs should be twice or one and half times that between sentences
    7. indent the start of a new paragraph — indent 5 spaces
