“Bath” by Amy Lowell
in “Bath,” Amy Lowell takes the simple act of taking a bath and turns it into a very short and very poetically told story. Every reader reacts differently to this piece. I have found over the years that the best way to discuss it is for each reader to share what they felt was its most important detail. Discuss that detail by explaining what you think it’s symbolic meaning is. The sunshine, the play of light, the vegetation, the water, the crow– there are so many symbols to choose from! So pick one– whichever one speaks to you the most– and explain the symbolism you see working through it.
Minimum word requirement: none– use as many or as few words as you need to explain your point of view.
