Writing Assignment: Women’s Rights since 1865
Form: Writing Assignment
Point value: 50 points
Purpose: In the study of History, half the population is often overlooked or marginalized. When the topic of women does arise, it frequently involves the primacy of the vote. But as we know, voting once every few years does not compare to what a person can, or cannot do, every day of their lives.
This assignment focuses on gathering, analyzing, and communicating information that concern the rights of women over generations. It also is meant to help us understand the many forms in which “rights” can manifest themselves.
Project Instructions: In History, females are often overlooked or marginalized.
Explore the evidence and see what you find to be the most significant breakthroughs in each of the following eras:
a. 1865-1920,
b. 1921-1965,
c. 1966-present.
In each segment, address how and why women’s rights changed through specific events such as government acts, social movements, major wars, technological breakthroughs, education, health, safety, employment opportunities, etc. For Part A: identify the two most important examples. For Part B: identify the two most important examples. For Part C: identify the two most important examples of events advancing women’s rights. Always use evidence for each example.
In this formal analytical argument, write a 2- 3 page minimum paper (plus a Works Cited Page, that does not count in your page length requirement) addressing the three eras separately.
Paper Format: All papers in this course will be Times New Roman, 12 point font. The body of your paper should be double spaced and page numbers located in the top right corner of each page.
Submission: Your final writing assignment must be uploaded in the appropriate Dropbox named: “Women’s Rights Since 1865”. No late or emailed assignments will be accepted.
Note: Any act of plagiarism will result in a zero for the assignment and disciplinary action. A second confirmed act of plagiarism will merit removal from the class.
In this paper, you will need to use facts and figures from the textbook readings and video lectures as source material to back up your statements. Anywhere you state facts, you must have an MLA style in-text parenthetical citation within the body of your paper. Each missed citation will cost you points and if you give me a paper without MLA style in-text parenthetical citations, you will receive a grade of ZERO because no citations = plagiarized.
In addition to your citations, within the body of your paper you MUST INCLUDE a MLA style Works Cited Page at the end of your paper. This Works Cited Page does not count in your page length. If you do not understand how to do citations or a Works Cited Page, make connections with the Teaching or Learning Center as soon as possible for tutoring assistance.
Follow the format guidelines carefully. Peculiar spacing, wrong font and font size issues, and missing citations/Works Cited Page will definitely hurt your grade.
Please remember, this needs to read as a scholarly work; therefore, refrain from using first person and contractions.
