The Survey
Part 3: The Survey
Due November 30
The purpose of Part 3 is to gather opinions on the potential for success and as a means of considering the feasibility of your solutions before you go through with your project (which you are not required to complete). Although Part 3 is not very long, you should not delay in completing it. You may need to wait a week to get some feedback from SurveyMonkey. Be careful with your time because you cannot write Part 4 until you get the results of the survey.
In Part 3 complete the following:
- Provide a 7 – 10 sentence summary of Part 1 and Part 2. The summary should include the problem, your thesis, and your purpose for conducting the research. Do not go much beyond 10 sentences.
- Restate your four solutions from Part 2. Under each solution, write a 3 – 4 sentence explanation why each solution will work.
- Create a survey in which a reader can rate their opinion on the success of each solution you propose.
- The survey is not made up of questions. The survey items are statements that a reader can rate their opinion.
Example of survey ratings
The problem is that global warming will affect our lives in the future. We need effective solutions that will reduce our carbon footprint, which is one of the major contributors to global warming.
- The agriculture industry must use more sustainable farming techniques such as eliminating pesticides and using organic fertilizers.
- Heavy industries should reduce the amount of carbon-based residue they produce.
- People need to drive less and start walking more, especially when the distance isn’t too far.
- People need to use cleaner sources of energy such as geothermal and wind, which do not contribute much to our carbon footprint.
Notice that none of the solutions is a question. A reader can respond to each solution by stating whether she/he strongly agrees, agrees, disagrees, strongly disagrees, or no opinion.
