Option #1 Personal Case Analysis
Consider this option to be a “personal” case study, with some theoretical support. The paper should describe a significant real work situation you have encountered. You will present and analyze the situation, and provide recommendations by applying concepts and principles learned in the course. Basically, you will be writing about a business event/situation that you have been involved with. First, you provide the facts, as straightforwardly as you possibly can, in sufficient detail so that the reader may understand what happened. Be objective, don’t inject your emotions or opinions. The write-up may include quoted conversations, supporting documents, and whatever else you think necessary to get the full story across. You may alter the identities of individuals and the organization to ensure anonymity. After you report the basic facts of the case, consider the impact that the situation is having/had on you and other stakeholders. Next you analyze the case and make recommendations. (This is where you will find academic journal articles to support your recommendations.) What I am looking for in the analysis is your ability to use principles from the course and academic literature to shed new light or a different perspective on the events of the case. For instance, suppose your case is about a micromanaging boss you have. We will be studying leadership theory during one module of the course. Can you use leadership theory to understand the mistakes this individual is making in handling subordinates? Or you might link this case of micromanagement to satisfaction, or performance.
