TASK: Create a Power Point or Prezi presentation on an entrepreneur of your choosing.  You may use a different software program, just email me with details. 85 pts. (10 pts for class presentation and 5 pts for each slide described below: 15 slides X 5 pts each)

 

We all know small business owners.  Think of one, and ask them if you can interview them regarding their entrepreneurship journey.  This person needs to be a current entrepreneur/business owner, NOT a historical figure such as Steve Jobs or Sam Walton.  You could interview them in person, by phone, or via PM/Email.  This must be someone other than yourself and/or spouse/partner.  This is due at the end of the semester, so plan accordingly!

·   What legal form of business is it?

·   What types of products/services are being sold?

·   What problem did they solve?

·     Have there been any changes to the business over the years?

 

4. Current company status

·   Who runs the company?

·   What role does the entrepreneur have in the company?

·   Describe what the entrepreneur is doing to continue their work in the business world

·   Identify their current projects

·   New products coming soon?

·   Ways technology is being used to improve their business

 

5. Financing Your Business

·   How did you finance your business start-up and/or expansions?

·   Looking back, would you do things differently?

 

6. Challenges

·   What were the biggest challenges you faced at the time of starting your business and what are the present challenges you face in running it?

·   What local or global economic conditions affect your business?

·   How many employees do you have?

·   What skills do you look for in employees?

·   Do you have any incentive programs to promote employee retention?

·   What should students learn in school if they plan to be an entrepreneur?

 

8. International Business

·   Do you buy products from or sell to other countries? If so, which ones?

·   Describe in detail their leadership/management style and give examples, e.g.:

·   Autocratic: when you run everything yourself

·   Democratic: managers & employees work together to make decisions

·   Free-Rein: the leader sets goals for your managers/employee and then leave them to do the work

·   Who is your target market?

·   Who are your competitors?

·   Does the company do anything special to get ahead of their competition?

11. Advertising

·   How do you advertise your product?

·   What type of advertising has proven the most effective?

·   Have you tried any electronic/social media advertising techniques? If so, how successful have they been?

·   Do they give back to the community: organizations they support, sport teams, etc.

·   Does the business owner have a charity they have created or support?

·   Do they provide money, products or services to their community? Provide examples.

·   Identify and explain a minimum of 3 personal characteristics that have contributed to their entrepreneurial success

·   How are their successes benefiting others?

 

14. Costs/Benefits Analysis

·   Discuss the costs (things you give up) and benefits (things you gain) of business ownership

·   What advice do they have for business students or those interested in starting a business?

 

15. Summary

·   Identify a minimum of 3 things that you learned about being an entrepreneur from this project
