(b) making use of information in a scientific paper that presents some scientific evidence that can be used to address the challenge.

The paper you write should be 3.5 – 4 pages in length, double-spaced. That would be the length in font size 12, 1-inch-margins; this would equate to about 1100 words of writing. In these 3.5-4 pages, you should be accomplishing the two asks above:
(1) describe the theory and research presented in the scientific paper you read (answer questions such as: what is the main idea of the paper? What are the main research findings supporting this idea? What methods did the researcher use to support their findings?), and
(2) explain how that theory and research can be applied to the applied problem (explain what the person facing the applied challenge might do differently if they knew about the theory and research in the paper).
You should spend about an equal amount of space on each of the two tasks; your paper should have about 1.5-2 pages describing the theory and research that is presented in the relevant scientific paper, and about 1.5-2 pages explaining how the scientific information might be used to solve the applied problem.

My suggestion is to have an introduction paragraph just a brief description of the article and the researcher’s goal. You’ll usually find this information in the abstract. Then I would have one body paragraph for each study the article talks about:

1. What is the Initial study? What were the researchers trying to find/ what was their hypothesis?

2. What was the study? What did the results show about the effectiveness of messages with injunctive vs. descriptive norms?

3. what did it show or include that was different about the first study?

Then for part 2 summarize the prompt:

What is it asking of you?
We encourage you to write this part in first person perspective, meaning use sentences like “I would make this type of ad because…” or “I would change this about the ad based on…”.

Whatever changes you suggest in making an ad make sure to connect it back to the article and what it said would be the most effective strategy to make people protect the environment.

Make sure you answer based on the evidence in the article the reason the initial ad in the prompt did not work/made people pollute more.
