The true importance of good spelling

Using the text “The true importance of good spelling” as an entry-point to a subject, write and a 400-700 word blog entry for Blackboard site. You may choose to write an expository post (i.e. concentrating on giving information) or a persuasive one (i.e. taking a position on a subject and arguing for it), or you could choose to write more reflectively on your personal experience and how your text pertains to it.

Options may include a blog post, podcast, tweet thread, infographic, etc. Visual design and research components will be required.

Regardless of how you choose to engage with your topic, your post must also contain a significant amount of research (include links to at least three outside sources), and should incorporate visual content (such as photos, graphs, etc). Make sure you correctly cite sources according to APA style for any research or content you include.

Grading Criteria:

A strong blog entry has substance, creativity, and personality. It recognizes that writing for the web (for an audience of peers and potentially other readers) is different than writing a homework assignment to submit in writing to your teacher.

Substance: Your writing should inform, interest, or prompt thinking in a reader. Questions I ask when assessing the substance of each blog entry:

Has the entry engaged directly and fully with the prompt?
Does it address the topic in a thoughtful, probing way?
Does it explore fully enough and dig deep enough to get to engaging insights?
Does it demonstrate critical thinking and analysis?
Does it employ examples and details to enliven the post and support/illustrate claims?
Does it link with other conversations going on out in the world, encourage interactivity? (for instance, reference other blogs, other informational sites, other articles.)

Presentation/Language: Writing in a blog space—like publishing anywhere—means that you have to pay special attention to style, word choice, and punctuation. Published writing should be as strong and engaging as you can make it. Questions I ask as I read:

Is there a useful title to guide the reader?
Is the language clear, concise, and easy to understand? Does it avoid pointless repetition?
Does the post strike an appropriate tone (exploratory but not rambling, with a voice that reflects the writer’s personality)?
Is the writing chunked up into small, accessible, and coherent paragraphs (or is it a long series of sentences that may not follow from one another)?
Are creative and useful design features included (e.g., headings, pictures, links)?
Are sentences well crafted and the writing proofread?
