Research Proposal Assignment

Assignment Overview:

The Research Proposal Assignment is the major writing assignment in this course.Students should work on this paper throughout the semester. This mix-methods paper will incorporate both the quantitative research design and the qualitative research design. In this assignment, students are asked to produce a formal proposal of at least 5 pages. The requirements for this paper are addressed in this document.

Students are also required to present their work in the form of a powerpoint presentation. The 3 minutepresentation should have the same format asthe paper. Students are required to meet with me (one-on-one), on zoom, to present their work. The presentation dates are from November 18thto November 25th.  Students will have to sign up for the power point presentation(zoom session) sometime during the semester.

Due Date:

The research paper is due on November 18th. The presentation dates are from November 18^th to November 25^th.

Grading:

The paper is worth 25% of the overall grade for this course. The presentation is worth 5%.  The presentation should have the same format of the paper. Students will meet with me on-one-on to present their powerpoint presentation.

Paper Format:

With regards to the paper format, please adhere to the following:

• New Roman’s Times font
• 1” margins
• Double space
• A cover page
• A questionnaire
• Minimum of 4 pages which does not include the cover page, questionnaire,& reference page
• In-text citation and reference page cited in APA form

The paper must have a cover page that should include the following: the title of the project; the course name; my name; your name; and the date

Organize your proposal according to the sections noted below (please use the same headings in your paper). Please address all parts of each section completely. Completeness, persuasiveness, clarity, coherence and correctness of your written presentation will be considered in the grading, so please plan, draft, edit, and proofread before submitting your formal proposal for approval and grading.

The paper should include the following sections, a reference page, a questionnaire, and a coverpage.

Sections of the Research Proposal

• Cover Page
• Introduction

• State the Problem.
  • You can add creative elements here and/orinclude some historical/cultural context.
• Describe the purpose of your study.
• Write your mainresearch questions – one that describes your quantitative design and one that describes your qualitative design.
  • You also have the option of including a hypothesis or stating that the study is exploratory for the quantitative component of this paper.
• Include the definitions and terms of any important concept (e.g. like terrorism).
• Note the significance of your study – Why is it important?

• Literature Review
  • This section should contain a summary/synthesis of existing research related to your topic and an explanation of how your topic contributes to prior research, either theoretically or empirically.
• Methodology and Procedure
  • Research Design (You are required to use both the quantitative research design and qualitative researchdesign)
  • Target Population and Sample
    • Tell me about your unit of analysis
    • Also include how you will try to find your participants, how will they be chosen, the inclusion criteria, the size, etc.
    • Include any other relevant information like incentives, etc.
  • Phase I Quantitative Research
    • Which quantitative method are you going to use? Students are required to select surveys
    • What is your sampling technique?
    • How are you collecting your data?Everyone is required to make a questionnaire; please attachit to the end of the paper
    • Mentions some important terms and how they are conceptualized and operationalized
    • State your independent & dependent variables as well as possible control variables
    • State the level of measurement for your independent and dependent variables
    • How are you going to analyze your data?
    • How are you going to test for reliability&validity?
  • Phase II Qualitative
    • Which qualitative method are you going to use? Students are required to select interviews.
    • How are you collecting your data? What is your sampling technique? How many participants do you have for the qualitative component?
    • What interview schedule will you use?
    • Tell me more about the interview process.
    • What are some of the qualitative questions and/or probes that you plan to ask?
    • How are you going to analyze your data?
    • How are you going to establish trustworthiness?
  • IV: Ethical Consideration
    • How are you going to ensure the protection, dignity, rights, and safety of all research participants?
  • V: Role of the Researcher (Quantitative & Qualitative)
    • What is your role in the quantitative research component? What is your role in the qualitative research component?
  • VI: Conclusion
    • Summarize your proposed study and explain how your study would contribute to the field of your choice. Also, provide a sense of closure.
