**Japanese 4080 Paper Assignment
Topic: Do you agree that the literary text of your choice shows the values
and beliefs of its society as well as those beyond the boundary of the
socio-historical context?

1.Choose one literary text from the assigned texts for this class. (Essays in idleness: Tsurezuregusa of Kenko by Yoshida Kenkoo.)
– Use section 1,3,7,8,13,22,23,25,117,137,190,191,211,212,242,243 only.

You need to explore the texts on the following points: When and in what kind of society did the author produce the work? What kind of values and beliefs are represented in the text? Are they culturally specific and/or universal beyond the boundary of the socio-historical context?

2.Find a couple of published texts to support your argument.
-Write a short (3-3 and 1/2 page, double-spaced) paper on the given topic.
-The font size is 12.
-You must provide specific sources of your information in footnotes (Chicago Manual) or within the text (MLA format), and the bibliographical information of the texts at the end of your paper.
-In your opening paragraph, you should include a clearly stated thesis.
-You should use the following section of the paper to support your argument through explanation, interpretation, and/or argumentation. In
the final section, you should briefly state the summary of what you have argued in the previous section, and complete your paper with concluding remarks.
