Bus 2010
Bus 2010 Paper #1:Topic and Writing Guidelines
The most important aspect of this paper is you expressing your thoughts and opinions after you have read about the topic. I do not want answers and definitions straight out of the book. What do you think and what is your experience of this topic?
Paper Topic:
- Answer one or two of the questions below questions.
- If you have chosen one topic and find you have nothing more to write about it and you have not written what you feel is enough pages you may answer another question.
- As an HR employee EEO plays an incredibly important role in how a company conducts multiple job functions. Define and discuss affirmative action and staffing and recruiting practices. Include laws, regulations and a brief history of the subject. You may use personal experience or an example from the media (Internet, magazines, News).
- Define and discuss Equal Employment Opportunity and staffing and recruiting. What is it? Describe the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1991. Are there more laws? How can they be regulated? Does your job as an HR employee put you in the role of “discrimination police”? What discriminations does EEO include? Give me a brief history and an example of any of the laws or regulations.
- Define and discuss “reasonable accommodation”and staffing and recruitingin regard to individuals with disabilities, differing religious beliefs, etc. Does diversity management really work? Give examples.
Guidelines
The paper should have a title page and a bibliography(even if your only source is the text, include web addresses) and be 12 font, 1 1/2 spaced, APA style accepted. Its length is up to you.
Only you can choose when you feel you have answered the question in its entirety. I give you this choice because I firmly believe that in the “real world” your manager would never ask you to write a project paper and tell you it had to be five pages in length. Besides, I am aware through my own past experience of how to fill up pages of paper with words of no true merit just to make the length requirements asked by the instructor. I want this paper to reflect information from the text, the Internet (if you used it), and personal opinion. It is very important for you tell me your attitudes and ideas about this topic.
I will be using a rubric to grade the paper. Please be conscious of grammar and spelling, it’s an easy way to maintain as many points as possible. Being diligent and professional in your writing is incredibly important as a manager.
What should be included?
Introduction: (do not include this word in your paper)
This should include what you are going to discuss in the paper. I have included an example from a different class in D2L. It should be beneath this entry. Clearly present the main idea of your position paper.Explain your view.
Body: (do not include this word in your paper)
This is where you discuss the question at length. Refer to example.
Analyze Data & Document Sources:
Tell the reader why you’re taking the position you’ve chosen and offer evidence supporting your opinion. Be sure to present the information in a logical order and avoid making any statements that lack obvious support. Make him or her understand why you think the way you do. Include information you have learned from the textbook and any other resources you need to support your position. This is the research and fact gathering portion. Remember there are many ways to collect data: Survey’s, personal interviews, as well as traditional finding of studies, articles in professional journals and/or other library related secondary information sources. I’d be happy to discuss these methods with you.
Conclusion: (do not include this word in your paper)
Restate your introduction in a different manner. Remind the reader of how you feel, etc about the subject matter.
