You see art more often than you might realize. It is in our parks as sculpture, our buildings and places of worship, in film and video, and even sometimes in the marketing arts like ads, web design, logos, etc. What about craft items? Art is not only just in galleries.

After watching this weeks’ videos on land art, conceptual art, and performance art video, what are your thoughts about what they argued about modern art? For this assignment, select two artworks from 1980 to present, one that you think IS meaningful, moving and skillfully made and one you consider You see art more often than you might realize. Compose a typed, two-page, double-spaced paper review and analysis of your two works. Include the titles, dates and names of the artists and gallery, if known. They should be original artworks by artists showing in a gallery, museum, or public space so that they could be considered “professional” output from professional artists, not a copy or some poster.

It is mandatory to correctly use your art terms, the formal elements, to bolster your opinions. If media is important in conveying message, then use it. Include message and meaning-or lack of it. Do not use research of the artist’s life, the artist’s statements, nor what others have written about the work or artist. This is plagiarism and also defeats the purpose of the assignment. I will not count you “wrong” if you cannot find the meaning nor if you mistake the meaning. Believe me, it may be “art for art’s sake” or just “bad” art. Modern art is like that, unfortunately. The work is often so personal to the artist; the viewer cannot understand it without researching the artist before seeing the work.
