Color Personality
Part one: Using the personality color you are, describe how those color characteristics you have will make you a great nurse. If you would like to add your second color strengths, feel free to do so. I don’t expect you to name all the characteristics. Mention the ones that speak to your personality most.
I would like to start off by saying I am as golden as they come! I scored a strong 42 in the personality color Gold. After reviewing the characteristics within that color, I couldn’t agree more. The top characteristics that speak to my personality the most is:
- Want everything done in a particular way ( which may appear as being a perfectionist)
- See things for what they really are (which may appear as not optimistic)
- Like a list to check off accomplished goals (which may appear always being worried about schedules and deadline)
Despite what my top 3 may appear to come off as to other people, I personally feel like those are great characteristics to have when caring for a patient. The way these would benefit a patient within in my care would be:
- Having things in order prevents/ lessens room for errors and mistakes to occur. I am a rule follower when it comes to patient care. Why?… because in nursing there’s always a reasons for why things are done a certain way. And by doing so, those rules and orders eventually lead you to a positive outcome. And guess what? Me being my color when I know there is a specific outcome, I do everything possible to get the same results.
- Seeing things for what they are is crucial in nursing . this will prevent me from giving false reassurance and hope when sometimes there is none. Having this trait will also keep me honest and realistic with my patients. By seeing things for what they are, I have the power to guide a patient and/or family member to have time to prepare for what is to come. Time is always an issue when the unexpected happens. And if I can lessen the stress of my patient and their family by laying it all out there and giving them the needed to prepare, I WILL.
- This will benefit me and my patients because I can’t forget as easily if I have it written down with a little square box beside it waiting for a check mark. Anyone who knows me knows I live by my planner and small weekly list of to-do’s. This is honestly one of the things that keeps me motivated and happy as its marked off. In nursing you have to find something that brings joy to you while working, if not you’ll feel like wasted your day and your shift is never ending. And for me, marking things off my list is my small joy in the day. I am a visual person if I can physically see what I have done in my day it keeps my energy up! And who doesn’t love a nurse in a good mood with energy to pass off!
Part two: Describe what traits you need to be aware of that you know others may misinterpret or that may be unhealthy.
Express your ideas knowing your own behavior, not just reciting from the papers you were given last week. Give examples of your good traits and the ones that may be misunderstood.
Three characteristics that others constantly misinterpret that I found a consistent issue as I’ve grown up are:
- How controlling I am about every aspect of my life. I have realized overtime I have a very heavy/ strong personality. I am very opinionated and I try to maintain a structured life since I hate the unknown. But because I am that way I’ve struggled in my relationship and friendships because they misinterpret that as its either my way or the highway. But that’s not my intent at all. The reason why I hate depending on people is because I’m scared of the effort they will put in. I know when I do something I give it 1000% to make sure what I am doing to help will be beneficial to whoever is supposed to receive it. I am a fixer, I think a lot before I open my mouth to speak. And because I think so much I feel like when I do/say things to try help others I’m about 95% sure my way will work. I try to always plan everything out ahead of time to prevent stress on others, but not everyone likes that. But my intentions are good, I promise. I just would rather do something myself than put that stress on someone else, just because I feel like I can always find a way to fix it.
My mom constantly reminds me that not everyone will like or think the way you do and you have to learn to be open to change and at times be willing to hand it over to someone else. Which brings me to my second trait that’s misinterpret
- Being reluctant to change. Others interpret that as being stubborn & boring. But the truth is I just have a hard time trusting. I just feel that if something is working and it’s not broken, it should stay how it is because clearly its working fine. I hate depending on others and trusting that is going to work because again I fear the unknown. And I honestly value things that last. Although you might not believe this I am super open minded about everything. I am open to ideas and trying thing but that doesn’t mean I’ll stick to it.
- Being too fussy about details. I am a very detailed person. I think the smallest of details make all the difference. Anyone in nursing school, is taught a little change in vital signs, small reactions to medications, the last couple of seconds between 11:59- 12:00am My friends and family hate how much attention I place on small detail and I think I just want everything to be unrealistically perfect when it can’t be ( although truly it can be). Some find it annoying, others stress out about it but regardless details complete the big picture. To get the big picture from a puzzle, people forget you need to connect the small pieces together first. I just wish people would see it that way!
Use at least one Bible verse in your essay that has meaning in your life. It may be a favorite verse or one that has helped mold you or one that just sounds good to you but fits the topic you are writing about.
One of my favorite reminder verses currently is . deuteronomy 14:2 which basically says “you are set apart and chosen” – explain it with like a couple sentences and say how despite our flaws we all were made In the image a God for a reason.
Part three: Name what other color (personality) you may need in your life to help keep you balanced.
The personality color I think I would need in my life is a blue. Which luckily that is the color my boyfriend is. He is so emotional and he thinks with his heart. Which is something I lack, I am the type of person that gets emotional over things that others don’t, and don’t get affected by the things that normally make people emotional. And I think we work well together because I thinks hes very naïve sometimes about peoples intentions and so I kind of protect him in that way. So I think after learning our colors, I am a little more understanding of the way his is. I always used to tease him about being so sensitive just because I am not. But now I understand why hes the way he is and why I need him as much as he needs me. Im so thankful we aren’t the same color
