Criteria to be included in essay:

1. Describe the culture and climate of the clinical setting (general hospital/selected organization below) as they relate to the organization – include the philosophy, goals and mission statement as visible representations of the culture objectives, services and products

2. Discuss the structure of the organization and your specific unit, including the authority and position in the organization of key personnel in the clinical setting. Identify important formal and informal relationships. Include an organizational chart if you can find one.

3. Describe the range of human, financial, and physical resources, which support the activities of the clinical setting, who is responsible for budgeting, staffing, and human resource decisions.

4. Describe top management’s style traits — how the management team spends their time and works with the staff, how do they problem solve, how is communication managed, how are decisions made, is teamwork encouraged and facilitated?

5. Is the staff motivated to meet the needs of the unit and organization, and if so what techniques (i.e., incentives, etc.) are used as motivators?

6. Identify strengths and weaknesses of the organization.
