Nature Vs Nurture

In a simple sense, nature refers to what God has given us biologically, through heredity and genes. That is sort of the science part. Nurture refers to how our environment affects us and influences how we behave. This includes how we were brought up, what type of family, where we lived, religion, culture, etc. That is sort of the social part. Some people believe we are more strongly influenced by one or the other. For example cloning, genetic mapping, and twin studies support arguments for nature. Then there are people who believe that your genes don’t matter that and it is simply your environment. They look at studies of adoption, behavior modification and cults.

Your job in this paper is to share with me what you believe and why. You MUST take a position! Maybe you never thought about it, but that is why you are doing the paper. I want you to read up on it, think about it, and then give me your opinion. There is no right or wrong answer but you will be graded on how well you can defend your opinion and support your beliefs.

Your paper should be no less than 2 double spaced typed pages with normal 1 inch margins on all sides. Simply put your name at the top of the paper – this is not a full-blown APA format research paper – do not have a cover page or abstract. If you use a source or sources, make sure you cite it and include a page for references! It is highly suggested you use outside source(s) or you may be “rambling on” for 2 pages.
