Assessment One; Temperament

Purpose of Assessment will assess your ability to read and interpret a
chapter, to find relevant, recent literature of a topic, and link
psychological theory to a real-life experience. It will also assess your
ability to write concisely and reference appropriately.

A. Maximum of FOUR (4) single-sided A4 pages for your answers.
B. Reference list does not count towards this limit.
C. 12 point, Times New Roman font
D. Line spacing set to DOUBLE (see paragraph settings in word)
E. All margins must be 2.54cm in width.
F. Referencing format must be APA 7th edition (in-text citations and a reference list at the
end of the document).
G. Sources of information should be from within the past 10 years (ie 2010-2020).
H. You ARE NOT required to include a contents page, cover page, headings/subheadings;
however, if you choose to please ensure they are in the APA 7th edition style.
PLEASE NOTE: We will stop marking/reading your answer if it exceeds the 4-page limit, so
please ensure that your answers are within the 4 pages. To assist you with keeping within the
page limit- you are NOT required to write out the questions.

assignment answers.
 It is expected that you use information that has been published

Question One (5 marks)
Define “temperament”. Describe four (4) examples from the chapter that illustrate
characteristics of a ‘difficult temperament’.

Question Two (5 marks)
Explain how a child’s temperament can affect the attachment between a parent and
child. Describe two (2) examples from the chapter of how the parents adapt positively
to their child’s difficult temperament.

Question Three (8 marks)
Thomas and Chess (1977) describe the idea of a ‘goodness of fit’, what does this mean
in terms of temperament and cultural differences?

Question Four (10 Marks)
Use the Library Catalogue to find a journal article (published 2015+) that reports on a
piece of original research about the relationship between temperament and some other
aspect of behaviour in children OR between personality and behaviour in adults.
Summarise the study aims, and explain in your own words what the key findings of the
study were. How might these findings related to temperament and personality be
applied in an everyday context?
