Summary of Community Planning Profession Act

“First, read and understand he assignment. Get the Community Planning Profession Act and read through it carefully. You have been asked to prepare BRIEF summary of the act to let the public know or profession exists by legislation. What is in the legislation that is important for the public to know (not planners), presumably to give them confidence in our profession. They don’t need or care to know everything. Again, imagine it is a summary for the public tha might be used on the SPPI web site, maybe by a big panning department having PR problems, or you just started a private planning office and want a handout for your clients so they will know how you are truly professional! Simple language!

To do this you need to understand the purpose of the Act, what it does, and to focus on why the public should care we are legislated. Read the SPPI bylaws for further insight but remember, the assignment is just about the Act. As for length, most people will not read two pages of text (maybePPot even one) on this topic. Point form, properly introduced, is fine.

Again, do not think you are convincing me you know the Act, you are convincing the public planners are professional and can be trusted because of the Act. If you can write for the public you will prove to me you know the legislation!”
