1. Problems:

The best way to approach discovering problems that need solutions is to be aware of the world (read, watch documentaries, go to new places, observe with new eyes). On the pages below is a read/watch list that can be a useful place to start. Feel free to use this list, or generate your own sources. For this portion of the assignment, you will identify two social justice issues in each of three categories and learn enough about them to think about customers and solutions.

Choose two social issues each from a global, national and local context (6 total). For each issue write:

1. What is the problem / social justice issue?
2. Who is the customer or client that would benefit from a solution or alternative approach to this issue?
3. What solutions have been tried? What are the primary significant barriers to solving this problem?

1. Solutions:

For the second perspective you will be looking for interesting or novel engineering solutions/devices. In this case, your reading will be in cutting edge tech entrepreneur news. For example, Wired Magazine, MIT Technology Review, following on Twitter or Instagram users like @interestingengineering or @world_of_engineering. In addition, you should be looking for engineering solutions that you encounter in daily life.

Identify 10 products or engineering solutions. At least 3 of these should be direct observation (things you see or encounter). For each,

1. Describe the Product or Engineering Solution (include link or photo or note for where you saw this)
2. What problem is this product trying to solve?
3. Who is the customer for this solution? How well does the solution fit for the customer?
4. What change or enhancement could improve this solution?
