Informal Report Assignment (Short Report)

1. Introduction and Objective

You are advising senior management, who are having a management meeting, about a technology proposal to integrate a system into
all new Ford vehicles that obstructs texting and operating a phone (any phone) while the vehicle is turned on. You must now research and write up a design solution recommendation report.

2. Background

1 in every 4 accidents in the U.S. is caused by driver distraction through texting or talking on the phone while driving. And the numbers are more like 1/3 in Canada. Creating technology to solve this problem would save lives. Ford can be a leader in preventing this distraction entirely. Note: the solution is an original Ford design.

2. Your Task

Write an intelligent, well-researched recommendation report on this new innovation. Your report should cover the costs of design, and installation, plus potential deadline dates for including the system in all selected 2022 Ford vehicles.

Your memo report should:
• Be addressed to Dean Stoneley, President of Ford, Canada
and the Ford Canada Board of Directors
• Clearly indicate the purpose and objectives of your report
• Identify competition in the vehicle safety arena
• Discuss the advantages in terms of both costs to consumers,
and lives saved that the new Ford technology would provide.
• Present specific recommendations for the Ford Motor Company to consider.

Note: Your report should be at least 4 pages long, plus a title
page, two images and a reference page and include:

• An Executive Summary – 2 – 3 concise statements
• An impact assessment – cost to implement the new technology versus the cost of lost consumers if not implemented
• A high level timeline to develop, test, certify and move into vehicle production.
• A title page with Author, Date, Recipient

To research the topic visit the college library online, review current cell phone safety features in other companies’ vehicles, read newspaper articles or search the Internet for statistics on distracted driving.
