Seminar Reflection: Intro to Activity 2
The purpose of “Activity 2: Seminar Reflection” is to give you an opportunity to learn about current research in mathematics related to Linear Algebra, as well as provide a written reflection. Select (ONE) pre-recorded or live – stream virtual math seminar from the sites shared at the end of this document. After watching/attending the seminar you will write a reflection (see Written Reflection Requirements for more details). You will submit your written reflection under the “Turn it In!” tab on the course Blackboard page. This assignment will be evaluated by your instructor.
Checklist:
- Select 1 (one) approved seminar
- Watch the seminar
- Complete a written reflection satisfying the Written Reflection Requirements
- Submit through Course Blackboard – Turn it In – Activity 2
Written Reflection Requirements
- Create a header for your post, to include a title of your choosing, the title of the lecture, speaker name, location, and date. You may also include the event sponsor. (i.e. “Norbert Weiner Center Seminar”, “Montgomery College RV Math Department Talk”, “Mathematical Association of America”)
- In your introduction, provide information about the speaker. At minimum, include:
- Where they teach or work
- Their area of research or interest.
- In the content of your post include information about the lecture itself:
- A brief description of the topic.
- Conclusions or results presented by speaker.
- The impact or significance of these conclusions or results.
- The relationship of the talk to the mathematics of our course, if any.
- Any additional details you like.
- Please also address the following prompts in your seminar reflection:
- Why you chose this seminar over other available options?
- The personal impact of attending the lecture. (i.e. learned ideas from Linear Algebra can be applied in a way I might/might not enjoy learning more about)
- In your concluding remarks, share additional topics that you are interested in learning more about in the future.
