The first two questions are based on “Scientific Papers,” from the web site, Scitable:

According to the article, what is the purpose of Scientific Papers? Who are they written for?
The Body of many Scientific Papers is broken down into five sections: Introduction, Materials & Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusion. (The names sometimes change.) According to the article, what does each of the sections do?

Choose one of the three Scientific Papers in the Texts folder—“Children of incarcerated parents,” “Uncovering the origins of dog-human eye contact,” OR “The experience of a good day”—and respond to the following questions:

What is the name of the science journal where the study appeared? Hint: Elsevier is the publisher, not the name of the journal.
In the Introduction, how do the authors explain the need for the study, i.e., why was it conducted? According to the authors, what’s been missing in the research up to this point? In other words, what hole does their study hope to fill? Does the Introduction contain a hypothesis?
How was the study conducted? Is it a qualitative or a quantitative study? Explain your answer. See Unit One/Texts/Some Basic Science Concepts for the definitions of “quantitative” and “qualitative” studies.
What are some of the results of the study?
In the Conclusion, how do the authors explain the importance of their findings? How might those findings be used in “the real world”? Finally, do the authors suggest the need for any further study?
