Why do you want to be a PA?

I want to be a physician assistant because I could not see myself doing anything else with my life. My patient contact hours were responsible for cementing my interest in becoming a physician assistant. I learned some valuable lessons that can only be learned thru experience. I worked as a physical therapy technician and thru this I learned the importance of adaptability and patience in the healthcare field.

One patient that I had was an older gentleman would make it clear how he did not enjoy exercise that he was doing. I explained to him how beneficial the exercises were to his healing and encouraged him by telling him how much was improving week to week. This led to him have an attitude shift and he would try to break his personal record every week. We even made up a quirky handshake to celebrate every time he would break his personal record. I realized how much taking the time to shown him that the exercising was indeed helping him heal when he thanked me towards the end of his therapy. He told me that, the fact that I believed in him was contagious and lead him to have better confidence in himself. This experience lead to me learn about the importance of adaptability and patience in the health care field which are two qualities in which I will like to express when I am a physician assistant.

Another experience

. This was my favorite part of my job because while I was leading them thru their exercises, I would also have the chance to converse with them and got to know my patients really well. A patient that really stood out to me was a man in his eighties.

One thing that I learned from this experience that I believe is not emphasized enough in the medical field is adaptability.  One patient that really stood out to me was a man in his seventies who had surgery on his knee. He asked how his knee should be preforming now compared to how long ago he had his surgery. He was behind where he should be. I took the time to go over once again the exercises that he was assigned to do at home to make sure he was doing them correctly.
