Analyze the use of point of view

LENGTH: Your paper must total at least 1000 words, not including quotations or the works cited page. The response should not exceed 1,500 words. Use MLA format. Include your Word Count in bold at the end of the essay (after the conclusion, before the Works Cited).

EX: “Word Count: 1,100”

FORMATTING: MLA style format is required with a standard heading on the first page as well as standard margins and pagination, throughout. Use 12-point, Verdana font, double-spaced.

DOCUMENTATION: Our class uses only MLA style documentation. Every college paper has both in-text citations and a works cited page. Refer to your MLA style manual and review the “MLA Format & Citation” module, as needed.

I am interested in a close reading (detailed analysis) of a short story from our assigned readings. This close reading should focus on details and make arguments based on the text itself. Therefore, you should not use secondary sources (outside sources) for this assignment. The only source in the Works Cited should be the short story you choose to analyze.

Use specific examples from the text(s) and at least three direct quotes (at least one piece of textual evidence per point of analysis / body point) from the assigned reading as supporting material in your essay.

PROMPT

Analyze the use of point of view, setting, and symbolism in the short story to determine the overall theme – the message, “truth,” or “moral of the story.” Identify the theme (main idea) clearly. Then, explain how these elements work together to establish and solidify the theme.
