virtual exchange
WSU-Fontys-IULT Virtual Student Exchange
This program is an opportunity to learn about culture and business practices in a different country through remote interviews of students from participating universities. It is hosted by Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan USA, Fontys University in Venlo, Netherlands, and the International University of Logistics and Transport in Wroclaw, Poland. Each student will conduct two interviews and create a report based on their observations. Topics will include supply chain management strategies, business practices, leadership, communication and culture. There are no right or wrong answers. The goal is to increase understanding, cultural awareness and to grow your international network.
Complete the online program participation form located at: http://bit.ly/SCM-Virtual-Student-Exchange. Please contact the student with whom you have been matched. Arrange a time to conduct an introductory video interview (Skype, etc). It is possible your match student is not confident in speaking English. If that is the case, you can offer that they answer the questions via email. It is much preferred you use video.
If you are assigned to a team from your university, each question should be asked by alternating team members. All team members are required to be on the video conference. Your answers to the questions should be prepared in advance of the interviews so that you are ready to engage in a dialogue. Each team member from Wayne State will submit his or her own report.
During program, you are required to make one post in the program LinkedIn group and reply to one post from a different University. Your post can be your thoughts on topics related to the interview questions, or any other thoughtful topic.
During program, please keep in close contact with your student match. I encourage you to keep in touch with your match following completion of the program by connecting on LinkedIn or other appropriate social media.
Report should be completed in PowerPoint and include the following content:
• Cover slide with individual student or team member names.
• Bio of student interview subject – include name, photo, major, year, city and country of origin, 1-2 favorite hobbies.
• Names and photos of interviewing student or team.
• One slide per question below – on each slide, include three columns:
1. Interview subject answer
2. Answer of you or your team
3. Analysis of key differences or similarities between answers
4. Only need one slide for the bio information
• Summary of learnings and observations from project. What did you find most interesting?
Interview questions will be provided by instructor.
Each international student who completes the program will receive a certificate of participation. This report will be shared with leadership from both Wayne State and our partner institutions, so please make sure it looks sharp.
