1.) After reviewing the course material, revisit the question, What is Philosophy? Discuss your observations on the relationship between Philosophy and life upon completing the course. When constructing your argument, please utilize the readings as evidence and examples. Be sure to include reference Russell’s “The Value of Philosophy” and Socrates’ “Apology.”
2.) Consider the claim “Christianity is Platonism for the people.” Do you think Plato set the groundwork for Christian thought? Explain by referring to specific Platonic ideas that do or do not reflect Christianity in reference to relevant ideas from Augustine’s “Free Choice of the Will.”
3.) Did Aristotle similarly set the groundwork for contemporary scientific thought? Explain your answer. Be sure to refer directly to “On the Soul” for evidence and examples.

4.) Do Descartes and Hume maintain traditional philosophy in reference to the questions they asked and their approach to answering those questions? To clarify, is their approach to philosophy all that different from Plato and Aristotle’s? Defend your answer. Please refer directly to “Meditations” and “Enquiry” in your response.

5.) Do either Nietzsche or Sartre offer a better approach to Philosophy than the earlier philosophers? Why or why not? Defend your answer by supporting whichever view you choose. Please refer directly to “On Truth and Lies in an Extra-moral Sense” or “Existentialism as a Humanism” to support your answer.

Your final exam is in the form of an essay.

Please adhere to standard essay form, including an introduction, body, and conclusion (but consider that your essay will not be limited to 3 or 5 paragraphs).

Exams should be typed, times/times new roman, 12 pt font, double-spaced, with 1″ margins, left justified.

The minimum and maximum requirement is 4-8 pages.

Please include page numbers on all pages.

A separate Works Cited page is required, as well as references within the body of the essay.
You are only permitted to use material you’ve read as part of your coursework and as found on the course Canvas page.
Additional sources (including Online resources) will not be accepted. Papers referencing online sources either directly or indirectly will not be accepted for credit.
Not referencing all sources is technically plagiarism and will result in an automatic “F.”
